Carovana e Forum antifascista in Donbass,
6–10 maggio 2015

Coordinamento
Nazionale per la Jugoslavia onlus)
Una delegazione del Coordinamento Nazionale
per la Jugoslavia onlus si è recata nella
LNR (Repubblica Popolare di Lugansk) al seguito
della seconda Carovana antifascista
organizzata dal gruppo musicale Banda Bassotti.
La Carovana, composta da più di cento
antifascisti/e di numerosi paesi, è stata presa
in consegna, al confine russo-ucraino, dalla
scorta della Brigata Prizrak ("Fantasma"), che
ha condotto il gruppo fino ad Alchevsk, dove è
stata offerta ospitalità in un dormitorio
militare.
Il giorno 7 maggio ad Alchevsk la
Carovana ha consegnato gran parte dei materiali
ed aiuti raccolti in Italia – vestiario,
medicine, piccoli utensili, denaro, cibo – ai
responsabili per le questioni umanitarie della
Brigata. Il giorno stesso una parte della
Carovana è stata condotta in visita presso un
asilo e alla mensa delle persone disagiate,
istituzioni destinatarie di gran parte degli
aiuti umanitari.
In serata la Carovana si è recata a Stakanov,
interessante città operaia dove sono forti ed
evidenti le memorie del periodo sovietico. A
fare gli onori di casa qui è stata l'unità
militare dei Cosacchi, che ha messo a
disposizione lo splendido teatro cittadino per
una prima performance della Banda Bassotti; si è
tuttavia preferito spostare l'esibizione
all'aperto, nel parco pubblico cittadino, in un
clima di festa popolare.
Il giorno 8 maggio, di nuovo ad Alchevsk,
presso la Casa della Chimica, si è tenuto il Forum "Antifascismo,
Internazionalismo e Solidarietà",
organizzato congiuntamente dai Comunisti
di Lugansk e dal Comitato
per il Donbass Antinazista di Roma,
sotto il patrocinio della Brigata Prizrak.
Al Forum, che è durato dalle 11 alle 18 circa,
sono intervenute non solo le numerose realtà
partecipanti alla Carovana – incluso il nostro
Coordinamento – ma anche svariate
ulteriori delegazioni sopraggiunte
successivamente, soprattutto dalla Russia,
nonché lo stesso Alexey Mozgovoy (comandante
della Brigata Prizrak), Alexey Markov
(comandante dell'unità 404 interna alla stessa
Brigata) ed altri esponenti delle autorità
militari protagoniste della rivoluzione in atto
nel Donbass.
Lo stesso giorno, la delegazione del Comitato
Ucraina Antifascista di Bologna ha incontrato
una referente del "Battaglione Umanitario" cui
ha consegnato una parte della somma raccolta in
Italia a scopi umanitari.
Il giorno 9 maggio, mentre la gran parte
della Carovana partecipava alla sfilata per il
Giorno della Vittoria organizzata a Alchevsk
dalla "Prizrak" e la Banda Bassotti si esibiva
con un concerto nella stessa città in un clima
meraviglioso, la nostra delegazione era a
Lugansk per incontrare altri destinatari degli
aiuti raccolti. Abbiamo avuto così la
possibilità di assistere alle grandi
celebrazioni per il 70.mo della Vittoria
organizzate dalle istituzioni della LNR,
proseguire per tutto il giorno nel centro
cittadino.
La nostra delegazione è rientrata a Rostov sul
Don il giorno 10 maggio, dove in serata
si è riunita al resto della Carovana, per
scambiare le prime impressioni e calorosi saluti
con il resto della Carovana in attesa di
riprendere l'aereo per l'Italia. Anche a Rostov
era palpabile il clima di festa e di orgoglio
popolare per le celebrazioni del 70.mo della
sconfitta del nazifascismo.
Su questa esperienza avremo tempo di comunicare
ulteriori dettagli e pubblicare ancora foto e
video nei prossimi giorni. Un primo bilancio
sintetico è il seguente: gli obiettivi immediati
della nostra missione sono stati tutti
pienamente ottenuti; per dare continuità
all'esperienza, che si è svolta in un contesto
militare e politico instabile e in presenza di
molteplici referenti, sarà necessario fare una
riflessione più approfondita confrontandosi con
le realtà omologhe alla nostra, partecipanti o
meno alla Carovana.

Ukraine!
Statement
Participants
in the Donbass International
Solidarity Forum
“Antifascism,
Internationalism, Solidarity”
We, the
participants of the Donbass
International Solidarity Forum
“Antifascism, Internationalism,
Solidarity,” state that as a result
of the coup d' etat in Ukraine, the
fascists came to power. The criminal
regime finally did away with the
remnants of the country's
sovereignty, unleashed civil war in
the Donbass, brought the national
economy to collapse, and condemned
residents to a daily struggle for
existence and survival. The
Ukrainian fascists adopted all the
methods of their historical
predecessors -- Nazi Germany,
Italy and Spain – and moved to open
political terror, physical violence
against dissidents, and the banning
of communist ideology.
We strongly condemn all acts of the
Ukrainian authorities in fueling the
war in Donbass, forcing its citizens
to participate in hostilities,
banning political ideologies,
rehabilitating the Nazi
collaborators of the Great Patriotic
War and World War II, and
perpetrating massacres of opposition
groups and individuals opposed to
manifestations of fascism. We
consider it unacceptable for a
Member State of the United Nations
to practice such political
repression and persecution.
We call on all antifascist forces of
the world to add their voices to
ours in exposing and combatting the
crimes of fascism in Ukraine.
We invite all opponents of
neo-Nazism, hate, racism,
anti-Semitism and xenophobia to
support the Ukrainian antifascist
fighters in their struggle against
the ruling political regime. Today,
antifascists around the world must
do whatever they can to fight the
brown plague which raises its head
in Ukraine.
We demand that the governments of
the world do the same and strongly
condemn the actions and character of
the Ukrainian authorities. The
crimes of fascists should not
receive public praise from the
international community. The
European Union countries should stop
supporting the Nazi regime and unite
their efforts to restore the rule of
law and democracy in Ukraine.
We demand that the President of
Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers of
Ukraine and the Verkhovna Rada of
Ukraine immediately stop the killing
of civilians in the Donbass region,
stop political persecution of the
opposition, and stop using the
courts as a a punitive body for
reprisals against dissidents.

Noi, partecipanti al Donbass
International Solidarity Forum
"Antifascismo, Internazionalismo,
Solidarietà" dichiariamo che a seguito
del colpo di stato in Ucraina, i
fascisti sono al potere. Alla fine, il
regime criminale ha eliminato i
residui di sovranità del paese, ha
scatenato la guerra civile nel
Donbass, ha portato l'economia
nazionale al collasso, ha condannato i
residenti ad una lotta quotidiana per
l'esistenza e la sopravvivenza. I
fascisti ucraini hanno adottato tutti
i metodi dei loro predecessori storici
– i nazifascisti di Germania, Italia e
Spagna - e hanno attuato apertamente
la politica del terrore, la violenza
fisica contro i dissidenti e il
divieto dell'ideologia comunista.
Condanniamo fermamente tutti gli atti
delle autorità ucraine rivolti a
fomentare la guerra nel Donbass,
costringendo i cittadini a partecipare
alle ostilità, a vietare le ideologie
politiche, a riabilitare i
collaboratori dei nazisti nella Grande
guerra patriottica e nella Seconda
guerra mondiale, perpetrando massacri
dei gruppi e degli individui che si
oppongono alle manifestazioni del
fascismo. Riteniamo sia inaccettabile
per uno stato membro delle Nazioni
Unite praticare tale repressione e
persecuzione politica.
Facciamo appello a tutte le forze
antifasciste del mondo affinché
uniscano le loro voci alle nostre
nella denuncia e nel contrasto ai
crimini del fascismo in Ucraina.
Invitiamo tutti gli oppositori
dell'odio, del razzismo,
dell'antisemitismo e della xenofobia
del neo-nazismo a sostenere i
combattenti antifascisti ucraini nella
loro lotta contro il regime politico
al governo. Oggi, gli antifascisti di
tutto il mondo devono fare tutto il
possibile per combattere la peste
bruna che alza la testa in Ucraina.
Chiediamo che i governi di tutto il
mondo facciano lo stesso e condannino
con forza le azioni e il carattere
delle autorità ucraine. I crimini dei
fascisti non devono ricevere elogio
pubblico da parte della comunità
internazionale. I paesi dell'Unione
europea dovrebbero smettere di
sostenere il regime nazista e unire i
loro sforzi per ripristinare lo stato
di diritto e della democrazia in
Ucraina.
Chiediamo che il presidente
dell'Ucraina, il Gabinetto dei
Ministri dell'Ucraina e della
Verkhovna Rada dell'Ucraina fermino
immediatamente l'uccisione dei civili
nella regione del Donbass, fermino la
persecuzione politica dell'opposizione
e smettano di usare i tribunali come
un organo punitivo per le rappresaglie
contro i dissidenti.

solidarity with residents of
Donbass
Statement
We, the participants of the Donbass
International Solidarity Forum
"Antifascism, Internationalism,
Solidarity,” express our deepest
concern for the fate of the
inhabitants of the Donetsk and
Lugansk regions, caught in the midst
of a civil war.
Since being unleashed by Ukraine in
2014, fighting with heavy weapons,
including aircraft, has claimed the
lives of tens of thousands of
people. More than 1 million were
displaced. The regular Ukrainian
army and so-called "volunteer"
battalions staged a real slaughter
in the Donbass, cracking down on
civilians who did not want to leave
their homes. The region's economy
suffered enormous damage.
Restoration of the economy,
overcoming the consequences of the
humanitarian disaster, will require
billions of dollars and years of
work.
We believe that participation of the
governments of other countries in
unleashing the military conflict in
the Donbass today imposes
responsibility on the entire world
community for the future of the
region. And we, as progressive
forces, cannot stand apart.
We consider it our duty to express
our full support to the residents of
the Donetsk and Lugansk regions
affected by fascism, who refuse to
bow their heads before it. We are
ready to devote our joint efforts to
defend peace and justice in the
Donbass. The residents of Donbass
should have the right to determine
their own future.
We believe that free Donbass will
choose the leftist path of
development. Socialism and labor
solidarity -- that is the road to a
new, fair life for everyone who has
lived through the horrors of war.
We are united with the Donbass in
our desire for peace, social justice
and democracy.
We call on the entire international
community to turn its eyes toward
the Donbass and support Lugansk and
Donetsk in their quest for freedom,
development and peace, as well as in
their struggle against the fascist
regime in Ukraine.

Solidarietà", esprimiamo la nostra più
profonda preoccupazione per la sorte
degli abitanti delle regioni di
Donetsk e Lugansk, presi nel mezzo di
una guerra civile.
Da quando è stata scatenata
dall'Ucraina nel 2014, la guerra
combattuta con armi pesanti, compresi
gli aerei, è costata la vita a decine
di migliaia di persone. Ci sono più di
1 milione di sfollati. L'esercito
regolare ucraino e i cosiddetti
battaglioni "volontari" hanno messo in
scena una vera e propria strage nel
Donbass, una repressione sui civili
che non vogliono lasciare le loro
case. L'economia della regione ha
subito enormi danni. Il risanamento
dell'economia, il superamento delle
conseguenze del disastro umanitario,
richiedono miliardi di dollari e anni
di lavoro.
Siamo convinti che la partecipazione
dei governi di altri paesi allo
scatenamento del conflitto militare
nel Donbass oggi imponga delle
responsabilità a tutta la comunità
mondiale riguardo il futuro della
regione. E noi, come forze
progressiste, non possiamo stare in
disparte.
Riteniamo nostro dovere esprimere
pieno sostegno agli abitanti delle
regioni di Donetsk e Lugansk colpiti
dal fascismo, di fronte al quale
rifiutano di chinare il capo. Siamo
pronti a impegnare i nostri sforzi
congiunti nella difesa della pace e
della giustizia nel Donbass. Gli
abitanti del Donbass hanno il diritto
di determinare il proprio futuro.
Noi crediamo che il libero Donbass
sceglierà una via di sviluppo di
sinistra. Il socialismo e la
solidarietà del lavoro, che è la
strada per una nuova e giusta vita per
tutti coloro che hanno vissuto gli
orrori della guerra.
Noi siamo uniti al Donbass nel nostro
desiderio di pace, di giustizia
sociale e democrazia.
Chiediamo alla comunità internazionale
di volgere lo sguardo verso il Donbass
e di sostenere Lugansk e Donetsk nella
loro ricerca di libertà, sviluppo e
pace, così come nella loro lotta
contro il regime fascista in Ucraina.

Members of Legislative
Assemblies,
Governments,
and Heads of State of the World,
and to
International Organizations,
on the
need to facilitate lifting the
blockade
and
ending hostilities in the
Donbass
We, the participants of the Donbass
International Solidarity Forum
“Antifascism,
Internationalism, Solidarity,”
expressing our support for the
residents of the Lugansk and Donetsk
regions, appeal to the governments
of the European Union, the United
States, members of the European
Parliament, and representatives of
the countries of the United Nations
to take all possible measures,
including economic and political
sanctions, against the State of
Ukraine, in order to make the
Government of Ukraine fulfill all
the provisions of international
agreements, including Minsk, aimed
at ending the war and restoring
peaceful life to the Donbass:
- complete ceasefire in the
Donbass;
- withdrawal of heavy weapons;
- admittance, delivery,
storage and distribution of
humanitarian aid;
- restoration of social and
economic relations, including
payment of pensions and other
benefits.
We believe that the members of
legislative assemblies, governments
and heads of state of the world
should resolutely condemn all
violations by the Ukrainian side of
the provisions of international
agreements on the establishment of
peace: killings, torture and
intimidation of civilians, looting,
the economic blockade of the region,
and obstacles to the free movement
of people in the Lugansk and Donetsk
regions.
We are confident that pressure from
the international community will
force the Ukrainian authorities to
end the blockade of the region,
which inflicted severe blows on the
economy of Donbass, and give the
region an opportunity to rebuild its
economy, aid the lives of innocent
people, and contribute to an early
recovery from the consequences of
the humanitarian catastrophe.
Residents of Donbass should be able
to receive the necessary medicines,
foods, and construction materials to
rebuild infrastructure.
We draw the attention of the
international community to the fact
that the vast majority of soldiers
forcibly mobilized into the ranks of
the Ukrainian army do not want to
participate in a fratricidal war.
However, Ukrainian legislation
provides for the imprisonment of
those who refuse to go and kill
civilians in the Donetsk and Lugansk
regions. We believe this practice is
unacceptable and inadmissible.
We appeal to the international
community to take all measures to
ensure that peace and stability
return to the Donbass. For the sake
of stability and to overcome the
consequences of humanitarian
disasters in Eastern Europe, in
order to prevent any attempts to
violate civil rights and freedoms,
all countries of the world should
unite their efforts in a common
pursuit -- to help the Donbass.

Il Donbass International Forum di Alchevsk è
stato un momento importante di condivisione
dove abbiamo avuto modo di conoscere le
diverse realtà che come noi hanno deciso di
supportare l'insurrezione del Donbass,
ognuna con la propria storia e le proprie
lezioni apprese dall'esempio novorusso.
Durante lo svolgimento del forum abbiamo
anche ricevuto la visita del Comandante
Aleksey Borisovich Mozgovoy della Brigata
Prizrak e del Commissario Alexey Markov
dell'Unità 404 che ci hanno portato un
importante saluto e contributo.
Il Commissario, da sempre refrattario a
semplificazioni e comode illusioni, ha
sottolineato la necessità di continuare
questa lotta novorussa sul campo e nel cuore
del nemico, l'Unione Europea, tenendo a
mente che la situazione è lontana
dall'essere monolitica: non ci sono solo
nemici o solo amici, nella Russia e
nell'occidente.
E' necessaria una ricomposizione delle
forze, che possa servire in Donbass come
altrove per la costituzione di una nuova
concezione della società. Questo, d'altra
parte, è stato il nostro obiettivo fin
dall'inizio.

intervention to the International Forum,
Lugansk 8.5.2015
Dear comrades,
thank you very much for promoting this event,
which can be very useful for all organizations
like ours, coming from abroad, as well as for
the leftists and communist forces carrying on
their freedom, national and ideological struggle
in Novorossija.
We speak here in the name of a group of
anti-imperialistic and antifascist activists
from the town of Bologna and its surroundings,
in Italy. This group started with some
activities already
in March 2014 but, after the tragic pogrom
which took place in Odessa, 2
May 2014, it intensified its work and
named itself Committee
for an Antifascist Ukraine in Bologna.
Several committees like ours have been formed in
the past months on a local basis in Italy to
promote and organize humanitarian aid
collections, demonstrations, symposia and other
events in solidarity with Ukrainian and Russian
anti-fascists, for the self-determination of the
Donbass people. Our group is formed by some
tenths of people of Italian and foreign (mostly
Ukrainian and former-USSR) citizenships, which
give their help to any single event on a
voluntary basis.
Since March 2014, in our town we have been
directly organizing 4 public conferences and
participated in one more conference organized by
others; we initiated 4 gatherings/demonstrations
in Bologna downtown, with some hundreds of
people taking part. Our comrades also moved to
other towns either to take part to
demonstrations – like in Parma and Milano – or
being invited as speakers in conferences –
especially in the regions Romagna and Veneto.
For some of us, this engagement in the
Novorossija-Ukraine question is a follow-up of a
more general involvement in the
anti-imperialistic and NO-WAR movement and
struggle. We therefore already have some
experience of internationalist solidarity to
share with you. In particular, the two of us
which are present here today are also founding
members of the Italian
Coordination for Yugoslavia. This is
a registered no-profit association, formed in
year 2000 as a consequence of several
initiatives which had been started all around
Italy to protest against NATO aggression to
Yugoslavia. The Italian Coordination for
Yugoslavia counts at present around 50 members,
Italian and foreign citizens, which are in
various ways engaged on Yugoslav issues, that is
on issues dealing with the geographical,
cultural and political space of the dismantled
Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia. Our
association has been grounded on the very same
values on which half a century of peaceful life
and development of Yugoslavia was established,
that is: against any nationalistic or ethnic
contraposition, following the path of the
People's Liberation Struggle to which thousands
of Italians took part, too, together with all
other Partizans from different nationalities.
Given its very basic inspiration, the Italian
Coordination for Yugoslavia maintains a focus on
everything related to the knowledge of the
Slavic world, as well as on brotherhood and
friendship among the Italian people and all
peoples of Middle and Eastern Europe, in the
spirit of a broader internationalism among all
workers.
The Ukraine and Yugoslav crisis have several
similarities.
USSR like Yugoslavia had been able to defeat the
Nazi-Fascist aggression and the related projects
to dismember them into several pieces based on
nationalistic and extreme-right
collaborationism. In both cases, the victory at
the end of WW2 was possible thanks to the heroic
struggle of the Red and People's Liberation
Armies with their Partisans, under the guidance
of the Communists, and led to the reinforcement
or enforcement of the respective socialistic
systems.
With the end of the Cold War, both countries
were dismantled and any possibility to preserve
the unity of their component peoples' was
undermined. In Ukraine like in Croatia or
Bosnia, so-called national or ethnic minorities
(Russians in your case, Serbs in the other case)
were hindered with violence from forming their
own political entities that is to apply their
right to self-determination.
In both cases we have seen at play not only NATO
with its warmongering and open imperialistic
stance, but also the European Union led by
Germany as a renewed imperialistic power.
In fact, focusing on the European and
especially German responsibility is
necessary to really understand both scenarios
(Yugoslavia as well as Ukraine) and to
understand the ongoing international crisis. It
is not by chance that the putsch of February
2014 was called the EURO-Majdan movement, and it
is not by chance that among the first
international recognitions to Jatsenjuk came
those of Berlin and Brussels with the
EU-Accession Agreement. Of course, USA and
Israel do play a major role in escalating the
crisis and try with all means to ruin the
relationship between the EU and Russia: they do
this because it is their precise interest, in
the epoch of energetic crisis (oil scarceness)
and financial war (US Dollar being superseded).
However, USA and Israel can easily reach their
geopolitical target in this area by simply
letting old-European chauvinistic and revanchist
forces to develop, or even provoking them. In
some sense, you – people of Donbass, together
with the Yugoslavs – are the first victims in
this process of carving the boundaries of a
European Union, that is establishing a New
European Order after the end of the Cold War.
Such a New European Order too much resembles the
one called upon by Hitler and Mussolini. We
should remember that German and Italian
troops were here, right on these territories,
in Gorlovka, Nikolajewka/Livenka or Rossoš, as
occupiers at the beginning of WW2, and
today while we celebrate their defeat 70 years
ago, we also warn that European imperialism and
its quislings must be stopped from the very
beginning.
Understanding all this is absolutely necessary
in order to carry on an effective
anti-imperialistic and anti-war struggle within
Europe.
However, based on our experience as NO-WAR
activists and organizations, we wish to tell you
about other difficulties which are encountered
in the theory as well as in the practice in the
present phase. We speak of difficulties which
are typical of our, that is Western-European,
countries, but we believe that you are familiar
with such problems, too.
First of all, although obvious, it must be
clearly stated here that the defeat of the
international socialist and communist movement
is being paid dearly by all peaceful individuals
as well as by entire peoples, because only a
socialist and communist movement can spread the
correct view of the dangers coming from
imperialism, that is from capitalism in its
monopolistic phase. Thus a major question to put
is:
how can a NO-WAR movement act effectively in
the absence of a political anti-imperialistic
and anti-capitalistic force? We must
underline that so-called leftist parties, which
abandoned any radical criticism of monopolistic
capital, committed treason in the peace-war
issue on several occasions, as a result of their
opportunistic nature.
In the absence of these two elements – criticism
of the European project and anti-capitalist
orientation – the NO-WAR movement can only
develop weakly and with a very ambiguous
character.
Anti-americanism is not enough.
An interesting debate on this point has started
in Germany after some recent articles by the
communist newspaper Junge Welt, which denounced:
"the present anti-war movement is a rightist
movement". In Italy we have the very same
problems.
In fact, a common fault of the existing Western
NO-WAR movements is to have replaced
ideology with conspiracy theories. In
fact, on the base of mere anti-americanism, you
can meet fascists and other deadly confused
people on your way: they may appear like fellow
travelers, but they are not. For instance, they
will not be here tomorrow to celebrate the 70.
Anniversary of the Victory in the Great
Patriotic War. They will never say "Sorry" to
you for having invaded your homeland in July
1941. They will never oppose German
neo-imperialism because they like it. They will
never support peace and unity among the workers
of all nationalities because they love
nationalistic oppositions.
It is therefore important that the
anti-fascist character of our common struggle
is stressed in every occasion.
A final question to put is:
how can a NO-WAR movement be effective in a
context in which strategical misinformation is
spread by the corporate mass-media, that
is by all the media which are in the hands of
monopolistic capital?
In fact, mass-media are not simply making their
job wrongly: being used as real weapons, they
are an important part of the problem itself.
Please let us remember and commemorate here, on
this occasion, the Italian photographer and
reporter Andrea
Rocchelli. He came to Donbass one year
ago and was soon killed by ukro-fascist forces
together with his colleague Andrej Mironov
because his reports were clearly indicating the
true sufferings and the responsibilities in the
tragedy of your land. Well, it must be known and
denounced that Andrea Rocchelli was immediately
forgotten by his colleagues and the Italian
officials do not use to commemorate his death or
preserve his memory.
