E' MILOSEVIC IL COLPEVOLE PER I CRIMINI DELLA NATO
Con la massima serieta', la signora Carla Dal Ponte ha rilasciato
recentemente una dichiarazione nella quale accusa l'entourage dell'ex
Presidente jugoslavo per la morte dei 16 lavoratori della
radiotelevisione della Serbia (RTS), uccisi in occasione del chirurgico
ed umanitario bombardamento della NATO in pieno centro di Belgrado. La
Dal Ponte sostiene infatti che la NATO aveva avvisato Milosevic che la
sede della RTS era tra gli obiettivi che sarebbero stati colpiti, e
Milosevic ed i suoi collaboratori avrebbero dunque dovuto farla
sgombrare.
Immediatamente dopo le dichiarazioni della Dal Ponte, la molto
indipendente e molto professionale Federazione Internazionale dei
Giornalisti ha chiesto formalmente al Presidente Kostunica di aprire
un'inchiesta a riguardo. La Federazione fa giustamente notare che questi
sedici morti sono le uniche vittime civili nei bombardamenti di edifici
pubblici durante la campagna della NATO: infatti, gli altri civili morti
erano a spasso per strada, su qualche autobus, sui treni, oppure a casa
propria.

HEADLINE: IFJ calls on Kostunica to investigate NATO TV station bombing
DATELINE: BRUSSELS, Jan 26
The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) on Friday called on
Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica to hold "a public and independent
inquiry" into the deaths of 16 employees of the Serbian state television
station bombed during NATO's 1999 Kosovo campaign.
The call followed a statement by UN war crimes prosecutor Carla Del
Ponte
in Belgrade this week that NATO had told her then president Slobodan
Milosevic's authorities knew the TV station was a NATO target.
Del Ponte made the statement to a lawyer for families of the victims of
the
bombing who are suing the station management, claiming it kept operating
despite the fact they knew it was a target.
"If she is right, there is a scandal here that must be uncovered," the
Brussels-based IFJ said in a statement.
"The question must be asked whether the lives of TV workers were
deliberately sacrificed to make a propaganda point for the Milosevic
regime," said IFJ general secretary Aidan White.
NATO has said it included the TV station as a target in its 78-day
bombing
campaign because its broadcasts were part of the Milosevic machine of
ethnic cleansing of Albanians in Kosovo.
The IFJ said the 16 media workers were the only civilians killed in a
public building during the bombing campaign.
